Sarah Kitson

Dr Sarah Kitson is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester and an honorary consultant gynae-oncologist, working at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. Ā Her research interests include endometrial cancer prevention, treatment and survivorship.

She was awarded her PhD by the University of Manchester in 2018, in which she conducted a window study RCT investigating the effect of metformin on endometrial cancer proliferation under the supervision of Professor Emma Crosbie. She completed her sub-specialty training in gynae-oncology whilst undertaking an NIHR Academic Clinical Lectuership and used this time to develop and externally validate an endometrial cancer risk prediction model designed for use in the general population (PRECISION model). She was awarded a Dean’s Prize and Rosetree Trust Fellowship in 2024 to investigate the feasibility of undertaking a risk-stratified primary endometrial cancer prevention trial.

Dr Kitson is keen to support the development of others, supervising under- and postgraduate research students and sitting on divisional postgraduate research committees. She is a scientific editor for the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynae-oncology, guest editor for the Cancers journal special issue on endometrial cancer, has published 36 peer-reviewed publications, incuding a highly-cited Lancet review, and has an H-index of 18.
