James Segars

Dr. Segars is the Howard and Georgeanna Seegar Jones Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics and Director, Division of Women’s Health Research at Johns Hopkins. He is a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist. A major focus of his research has explored the molecular mechanisms responsible for reproductive diseases, including uterine fibroids, endometriosis, PCOS, and infertility. After clinical training he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at NIH supported by the Reproductive Scientist Development Program and then was recruited to the intramural program at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). Dr. Segars worked as a physician-scientist in the intramural program at NICHD for 20 years before moving to Johns Hopkins. At Johns Hopkins, he leads a research division in the department of gynecology and obstetrics that is actively engaged in several NIH-funded clinical and translational research studies of fibroids, endometriosis, and infertility. Dr. Segars has published over 250 research papers and serves on several editorial boards.
